EXPERT INTERVIEW

“The development of the Syrian independent media organisations and institutions was itself a kind of revolution that challenged and provided an alternative to the highly controlled, vertical structure that characterised the pre-war Syrian media landscape.”

Dr. Yazan Badran, Expert on Syrian Media

Dr. Yazan Badran is a Visiting Professor at the Department of Communication Studies (SCOM) and an FWO Junior Postdoctoral Fellow at the Echo and imec-SMIT research centers at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel, Belgium. He was a PhD fellow of the Research Foundation – Flanders (FWO) and obtained a PhD in Media and Communication Studies (VUB, 2021). He currently teaches on topics including the political economy of journalism, and media, culture and globalisation theories, mainly in the MSc. in Journalism and Media in Europe.
