RESEARCH GRANTS

  • Projects

The “Connecting the Dots” research grants have provided support to media outlets from Belarus, Russia, and Ukraine in forging partnerships with German organizations. This project placed a focus on data-based and investigative research, as well as on multimedia reporting.

Transnational collaborations offer media outlets in exile a chance to forge links with local media organizations. What’s more, they also enrich the breadth of perspectives depicted in news reporting and increase the visibility of specific issues.

FORGING SUCCESSFUL PARTNERSHIPS

The focus of the “Connecting the Dots” grant program was on supporting investigative media projects that are produced through partnering Belarusian, Russian, or Ukrainian media outlets with German organizations.

A five-person panel of experts selected transnational projects proposed by 11 teams, with the researchers receiving a stipend to allow them to complete their investigations. The projects supported through this program reached an audience of around 1.3 million readers.

Project period: December 2022 – February 2023
Project partner: Journalists in Need (jinn)

The project was supported by funds from the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media (BKM).
