Collaboration

Media in exile face the challenge of reinventing their production and research methods while working from abroad. Building local and international partnerships is crucial for market integration and access to diverse resources. The JX Fund has launched several projects to enhance content production and foster transnational collaboration.

ENHANCING RESEARCH CAPABILITIES: SATELLITE JOURNALISM

This project, implemented by Vertical52 and the JX Fund, aimed to provide exiled media with access to high-resolution satellite data and the tools necessary for complex analysis. This initiative responded to the high demand among journalists who, due to safety concerns, could only monitor events in their home countries from a distance. By offering satellite and radar data, the project facilitated investigative research, helping exiled media to continue to provide independent information and counter government propaganda and disinformation.

  • Implementation: Vertical52, JX Fund
  • Runtime: November – December 2023

Supported by the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media (BKM).

FORGING COLLABORATIONS: CONNECTING THE DOTS

The Connecting the Dots research grants, initiated and organized together with the Journalists in Need Network (jinn), aimed at supporting media outlets from Belarus, Russia, and Ukraine in establishing partnerships with German media outlets. The projects focused on data-based and investigative research, as well as multimedia reporting. By fostering transnational collaborations, the projects enabled exiled media to connect with national and local media, enriching news reporting with diverse perspectives.

  • Implementation: Journalists in Need Network (jinn)
  • Runtime: August – December 2022; November – December 2023
