Reporters Without Borders: Secretary General Christophe Deloire Died
It is with deep sadness that we at the JX Fund have learned of the passing of Christophe Deloire, Secretary General of Reporters Without Borders International. Christophe passed away on June 8 after a sudden illness.
Christophe Deloire, who negotiated the release of imprisoned journalists around the world and offered refuge and support to reporters under threat as the head of Reporters Without Borders since 2012, has left an indelible mark on the world. As the founding President of the Forum on Information and Democracy, aimed at addressing threats to democratic thought and freedoms, and appointed General Delegate of the États généraux de l’information, Christophe was a tireless defender of the freedom, independence, and pluralism of journalism.
His vision and support were also instrumental in the establishment of the JX Fund, jointly initiated by Reporters Without Borders, the Schöpflin Foundation, and the Rudolf Augstein Foundation in April 2022. His belief in the impact and power of exiled media will continue to inspire our mission.
We extend our deepest condolences to his wife Perrine, his son Nathan, his parents, and all those who knew and loved him.
